Postage costs
The postage costs for sending the materials from the Company/instructor to the Students are included in the tuition.
Students are required to cover the postage costs for returning completed worksheets and sending materials to the instructor/the Company.
* When sending completed worksheets or other materials from the Students to the Company, it is recommended to use Letter Pack (Light: 430 yen, Plus: 600 yen as of April 2025), which allows tracking of the package. If using methods other than Letter Pack, the Students are requested to refer to the postage pricing table of Japan Post. Additionally, since completed worksheets may be considered as letters, they should be sent using methods that accommodate letters. (For example, Letter Pack, Smart Letter, and regular mail are acceptable, but courier services are not.)
Application and its period of validity
Please apply for the correspondence course here.
If one month's tuition is not paid and the Diagnostic Test is not submitted within 50 days of application, the application will be cancelled.
Post-application procedure
After receiving the enrollment application, we will send you a Diagnostic Test and a payment slip for remitting the tuition. Students can begin the course by paying the one-month tuition and completing the Diagnostic Test within 50 days of application*.
*Applicants who have no Japanese learning experience do not need to take the Diagnostic Test. The enrollment procedure will be completed when they finish paying the tuition for the first month.
*Applicants who choose to pay their tuition via credit card do not need to utilize the payment slip, since the tuition for the first month will be billed when they register their credit card. The enrollment procedure will be completed when the Company receives the returned Diagnostic Test (or, in the case of applicants who have no Japanese learning experience, when the credit card billing is processed).
Preparations for study
- To take the Correspondence Course and use the Kumon Student's Page (hereafter referred to as the "Student's Page"), which is a webpage dedicated to the Students, the Students are required to prepare and maintain the necessary PC environment, such as a PC, a smartphone, a tablet, as well as software and an Internet connection, at their own expense.
- In order to receive the online reading lessons, you need to acquire a Microsoft account on your own (which can be acquired at no cost). Please check the hardware requirements for the use of Microsoft Teams on the Microsoft Teams website: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/system-requirements-for-microsoft-teams-free-dae0234b-839c-4f85-ae75-d14ad2baa978
Payment method
Payment may be made via credit card or at a convenience store.
Payment due
- Payment at a convenience store:
Tuition for the first month should be paid within 50 days of application. Tuition for the second month onwards is due by the 20th of the preceding month. - Payment via a credit card:
You are required to pay continuously through the credit card that you registered. Tuition for the first month will be settled when you register your credit card. Tuition for the second month onwards will be settled on the 21st of the preceding month.
Dispatch of worksheets and when to begin the course
- The first dispatch:
Applicants whose tuition payment and submission of Diagnostic Tests are confirmed by the 20th of the month will be sent the first worksheets by the end of the month and can begin the course the following month. If the tuition and the Diagnostic Test are submitted after the 21st of the month, the applicants will be sent the first worksheets sometime within the following month and can begin the course the month after. - The second dispatch and beyond:
Worksheets are not regularly or automatically sent to the Students every month. Instructors decide which worksheets will be sent to the Students after checking the worksheets that the Students have completed and returned to their instructors. Subsequent worksheets are basically sent within ten business days of receiving completed worksheets (excluding year-end and New Year holidays, summer vacation, etc.). Therefore, in principle, the Students will not receive new worksheets unless they return their completed worksheets, but they are also required to pay the tuition for the month.
Cancellation of enrollment application
Applicants can cancel their application for enrollment as long as they provide a notice to that effect by the end of the month preceding the month in which they are allowed to begin the course. They cannot make such cancellation in or after the month in which they are allowed to begin the course.
If worksheets have already been sent to an applicant at the time of cancellation of the application for enrollment, the applicant is requested to send them back to the Company within one week after the notification of such cancellation. The costs associated with sending back the worksheets are to be borne by the applicants. If they have completed any part of the worksheets, they cannot cancel their application for enrollment.
Temporary absence and withdrawal
If you wish to take a temporary absence or withdraw, you must indicate this via the Student's Page by the end of the month before the month in which you wish to be absent or withdraw. For further details, please see the Terms and Conditions.
Transferring out (switching to the class course)
You can change your enrollment from the correspondence course to the class course. To do so, use the Student's Page to apply to withdraw from the correspondence course by the end of the month before the month in which you wish to switch to the class course. In addition, you must apply for the class course at the Center where you wish to study. It is not possible to switch courses during the middle of the month.
